DEAR ABBY: my family and i retired 5 years ago. We have adequate savings as well as an excellent pension for us to live comfortably.
I took up a hobby 3 years ago that creates about $5,000 in annual earnings, that I reserve in a bank account that is separate. My spouse asked, “what exactly are you saving that money for? ” I said perhaps a classic vehicle, helping with a household reunion ( back at my side), etc. She responded, “We should be regarding the same page about how it gets invested because 50 % of it really is mine. ”
He sided with her because (legally) half of what I have is hers when I reached out to my son for his insight. I’ve no issue consulting with her on a significant spending taken from our other savings, but with this one I feel this woman is controlling and petty. Your ideas?
